German authorities accused Nikolaj Kozachek, an officer in Russia's Federal Agency the GRU, of hacking into a NATO think tank in Germany, the Joint Air Power Competence Center. The attack happened in April 2017. The accused hacker has installed keylogging malware on target computers. The hack led to hackers gaining access to NATO's internal information. The hacker compromised at least two systems and got access to internal information from NATO, however at this time it is not clear the extent of the attack. Kozachek is also wanted by the FBI for his alleged role in interfering with the 2016 US Presidential elections. He and 11 other GRU officials are wanted for hacking the Democratic party which arguably affected the outcome of the election. German authorities believe he is a member of a Russian state-sponsored hacking group Fancy Bear (also known as APT28). The group is associated with Russia's Federal Agency, the GRU. Which is the same group that hacked the German Bundestag in 2015. The German police are now searching for Kozachek along with another Russian hacker, Dimitri Badin, who is responsible for the Bundestag hack.
